Atlanta rapper Rome Fortune has largely flown under the radar thus far, hardly a household name even for your most avid hip-hop nerd. Still, there’s reason to believe that his spacey style, unique especially for an Atlanta rapper, will soon change that anonymity. Recently he collaborated on two new tracks with Kieran Hebden, the hyper-prolific producer known as Four Tet, who usually resides well outside the realm of rap music.
Now Rome Fortune has shared the first of the two tracks, “One Time For,” an effortless, laid back offering that is simultaneously impressive and nonchalant. Four Tet’s production here is airy and light, with a drum roll beat and of course Hebden’s love for beautifully distorted vocal samples. The result is a track that sounds ethereal but avoids the trippy stoner vibe, and a promising collaboration that suggests a spotlight-bright future for Rome Fortune. Hebden meanwhile has been producing more and more for other artists as of late, having recently overseen entire albums by Neneh Cherry and Omar Souleyman.
