As electronic music becomes more ubiquitous, it's easy to get lost in the quagmire of all the genres, styles, labels, etc…. to the point where everything begins to sound the same. But every now and then, a song comes along that reminds me why I ever liked this "EDM" stuff in the first place. That's exactly what happened when I first heard this excellent remix of The Fray's, "How to Save a Life." After only one listen I found myself impressed beyond words, and I'm pleased to premiere this track exclusively here on EARMILK.
Remixed by up-and-coming Chicago-based duo X5IGHT, the boys transform the 2004 hit into a big room prog house, and yet somehow retain all the melancholy and tenderness found in the original. As the original itself is a piano-heavy pop-rock balled, it was nice to hear the piano refrain alive and well in the remix. Of course, as a big room song, it still packs a wallop of energy and excitement (forgive the pun) that we've come to expect from the style. It really is quite impressive.
