Los Angeles based label 6J Recordings are on the rise. Towards the back end of 2013, they dropped three different projects in the space of a few days, including the first outing of a very hungry young emcee by the name of LaShaun Ellis.
If the LaShaun Ellis LP was to be the opening statement of intent that the young LA native sent out to the hip hop world, then he'd have to keep his workrate at a high level to match the desire he put into his first project. Since then, LaShaun dropped his previous single, "How Do You", which followed suit to his LP and stoked the fires whilst we waited on word of his next project. He also travelled to SXSW in March and showcased his talents to a wider audience, proving a hit at every showcase he performed at. Now, with almost half the year already in the books, we've been treated to another brand new single from Ellis, this time it carries the name of an NBA legend.
"Scottie Pippen" sees LaShaun Ellis maintaining his effort levels, with another fresh and hunger-tinged rap that will serve as a reminder of the talent he possess. Like his first project, "Scottie Pippen" sees in-house producer Khompono on the board again, proving a laid back, kickin' beat, which features a jazzy keys sample as well as an audio clip from a very famous on court confrontation between Pippen and New York Knicks superfan and visionary Spike Lee.
