LA is in a heat wave right now but the Gramatik label mates are still keeping things Lowtemp as they prepare to take over Red Rocks in Morrison, CO this Saturday. Bryn Austin Bellomy and John Russell, aka ILLUMNTR, are no exception to this lowkey vibe. Their latest single “Beyond Say” off their forthcoming album Soul Sister is robust with notes of future funk and psychedelic rock. On first listen it sounds slightly like the vocalist is a bit drunk but as your progress through the song it begins to grow on you in a massive way. Also, one can’t help but to think the track title, beyond say, was intentionally meant to sound like Beyon-ce. Maybe after the shit went down with Jay, Bey, and Sol the illumntr folks can step up to the plate to be blue ivy’s new baby daddy – their tunes are funky enough to get Bey on board.
