H-Town has a wealth of hip hop history that spans well over a decade, with artists such as Bun B, Pimp C and Scarface just a few of the names to call Houston their home. One artist on the rise from the City of Syrup, Travi$ Scott, has already made huge waves in recent years. Picked up by Kanye West to produce some of the tracks on his G.O.O.D Music label album Cruel Summer a couple of years ago, the beatsmith has shown that not only is he a gifted producer, but he's also pretty handy with a mic. His first mixtape Owl Pharoah, helped along by Kanye, demonstrated perfectly his ability to work on the boards as well as penning some really tough verses to coincide with each other.
2014 has been fairly quiet on the music front from the Houston native, but fear not, this week we were treated to a brand new track from Mr Scott, and what a banger it is. "Don't Play" is the latest turnt up, get you in the mood to party type track coming from Scott, and features all the characteristics of a Travi$ Scott song. The beat, co-produced with Vinylz & Rhitter, features hard hitting 808 kicks, snappy claps and snares and an almost Baroque sounding keys line that carries the melodic side of the track along. Also featured is a smooth vocal sample from The 1975's track "M.O.N.E.Y". Travi$ delivers a typically precise verse, with a flow that rolls off the tongue so easily, alongside an autotuned hook that's bound to rival "Worst Behaviour" for the most used phrase in the clubs. Detroit native Big Sean drops in to give an equally hard verse, which see's Sean and his slick flow really getting to grips with some of his critics.
