Eighteen months ago, the headline of a Dannic and Merk & Kremont collaboration might fall below the radar of anticipated singles. The Dutch-born Dannic had a massive breakout in 2013, pumping out a number of high-energy instrumentals, including “Clobber”, “Ignite”, and “Rocker”. Moving into this year, he’s seen continued support from Revealed Recordings and debuted “Dear Life”, his first vocal track with Bright Lights. Meanwhile, Italian producer duo Merk & Kremont have stayed busy onto the big room airwaves with originals like “Zunami” and “Charger”, while taking on remixes for Chris Lake and Syn Cole.
This week the two acts come together to release “Anubi”, and it is collaboration at its finest with clear hints of both styles. While thick synths on the breakdown is nothing new for both producers, the song drops into Dannic’s buzzy electro-progressive fusion only to play a game of cat and mouse with Merk & Kremont’s crisp, funky basslines. For a track that’s named for a half-human, half-jackal Egyptian god, it’s an appropriate title for an absolute beast on the dancefloor.
