I really wasn't prepared for such magic to come rolling out of my speakers when I pushed play on Alex Metric's new Hope EP. Fresh off the press from OWSLA and Atlantic Records, this EP promises grand times on the dance floor. We got a glimpse at what to expect from the project when Alex Metric released the title track "Hope" with disco duo Oliver about a month ago. The song samples some old school disco and is a beautiful fusion of traditional funk and nu-disco with a bassline that you could eat with a spoon.
The second track, "Spiritism" takes a dark turn where Metric successfully takes a stab at electronic minimalism. The crisp production paired with the sci-fi sound will definitely remind you of, or be the beginning of, your love for Alex Metric's music. The last track, "Galaxy" brings Oliver back into the mix to close out the EP in a proper manner. The happy chords and space-y funk pay tribute to retro disco in a modern way and will get you up and jiving. I'm stoked off of this EP and couldn't pick a favorite track of the three if I had to.
