Fans of ambient soundscapes: listen up. The newly formed duo called Inventions is the seamless partnership between pianist Matthew Cooper, a.k.a. Eluvium, and Mark Smith of Explosions in the Sky. Let's go a little more into depth of why this partnership was inevitable: Cooper himself has not been in any band or taken part in any projects other than his own. His work revolves around ambient soundscapes, creating environments with empty spaces with dashes of neoclassical. The sounds of Explosions in the Sky is no stranger to any music fan, though did you know that none of the band members have released anything outside their band before their formation? Not to mention that they both are labelmates, under Temporary Residence. It all seemed to fall into place, given their circumstances and musical train of thought. Take this teaser for instance.

The teasers they released got all of us intrigued in this new partnership. It was simple, yet powerful, which sums up their debut album quite nicely. Two singles were released before the official drop that exemplified their harmony and expert craftsmanship. Inventions bring in new atmospheric environments which is a refreshing change of scenery in an EDM dominated era. It is an ambient and experimental project that is now in full swing so if you are looking soothing soundscapes to escape the quick-paced life, the album Inventions is perfect for you.
So put on some nice headphones, this one is pretty deep.
