A Quick Word from the Authors:

Less than two weeks from the opening of Coachella here we are at the end of a week that was capped off by a 5.1M earthquake to hit Los Angeles. Thankfully the quake only caused minimal damage, however this photo of Franco and Rogen spoofing Ye and Kardashian should leave a lasting impression.

Releasing the first preview off of their new album, The Back Keys released the single "Fever" on Monday, which has stirred up some of the die-hards who seem to claim that their sound is forever changed. Also, Lollapalooza Announced their lineup this week with headliners Arctic Monkeys, Eminem, Skrillex and Kings of Leon slated among the stacked list for the August 1-3 Chicago festival.

The Indie Gift Basket

The Indie Gift Basket

Overview

  • The Pasture Less is more — slow-churned nights need a soundtrack too, and relaxation is underrated.
  • The Kindle represents a peak of accessibility where the masses will be drawn to the raw energy exposed throughout.
  • Lastly, in The Tryptophan indie gets plugged. What ups the ante more than experimental electronics and synths?

The Pasture

The Pasture

Drawing from hushed textures the intersection between folk and translucent melodies can surprisingly be seamlessly navigated. So kick back, chill out or fall asleep – but be sure to stream the easy-going tracks below for the epitome of mellow. Highlights include LAYLA's surprisingly endearing, hushed song "Smokestacks" and Marika Hackman's dark, and minimalistic cover of Lykke Li's "I Follow Rivers".

The Kindle

The top forty that no one knows, the songs that you pop on that party playlist, the tracks you belt while driving 80 MPH on a dessert highway, or the jams you blast alone in your bedroom, rocking out with your socks on, solo style. Wherever you are, you’re in for a treat by way of indie beats. Highlights include the track "Breathe" from the always exciting duo IYES and Wunder Wunder's warming indie rock jam "Coastline".

The Tryptophan

The Tryptophan is a playlist for the forward-minded individuals, filled with everything from airy ascending melodies to mind-bending beats that work to spark a progressive, yet equally grounded mindset. Highlights include Marian Hill's on-point remix of Zella Day's already catchy track "Sweet Ophelia" and Yumi Zouma bringing on Air France for the gliding "It Feels Good To Be Around You".
