Late Night Alumni and Le Castle Vania, two names I'm always happy to hear and two I don't hear enough. Back in '08 when I first started this chaotic adventure through the electronic underbelly, I remember running across Le Castle Vania's "Zero Machine" and "The Messiah" and instantly scouring the internetz for all any heavy grinding electro house track I could get my hands on. Five years later, the solo producer from Atlanta dropped his 4-track Prophication EP on one of the industry's most coveted imprints, mau5strap, keeping true to his roots with wobbly beats, metal melodies, and gritty basslines.
Contrast that with Late Night Alumni's honeyed touch, a group who infuse their music with Beck Jean Williams' breathy vocals and John Hancock's masterful production. These two are often Joined by Finn Bjarnson and Ryan Raddon and released their full-length studio album, The Beat Becomes A Sound, just last January. Lending their talents to remix Le Castle Vania's unrelenting electro house track, "Disintegration", Late Night Alumni transform the song into a soulful, soothing ballad fit for dark nights filled with stolen glances. In a way, the new direction speaks to an alternate mode of disintegration: not being torn apart, rather a slow and subtle loss of oneself in another.
