Meridian Dan, JME and Bossman Birdie freestyle for BBC’s #GimmeGrime

BBC’s urban music radio station 1Xtra are currently running a series focusing on some of the UK’s biggest grime MCs. #GimmeGrime has so far produced three instalments of freestyle videos this month featuring Great British talent going hard in the studio. We’ve been blessed with bars from the larger than life Brixton artist Big Narstie, Manga, Snowy and Izzy Gibbs. Jammer and Realz also came through but the highlight freestyle session came from JME, Meridian Dan and Bossman Birdie. The heavyweight trio swung by JJ’s Xtra Talent show to shine over Meridian’s “German Whip” beat; a grime anthem which they also recently performed for a 1Xtra Live Lounge session. For EARMILK readers unfamiliar with UK grime, it’s time to educate yourself and there aren’t many better ways than checking out this latest #GimmeGrime effort. “German Whip” exemplifies the fire UK artists can stir up while one of our most popular and individual performers, Boy Better Know’s JME expresses the lyrical invention he’s become known for and Meridian refuses to let the “German Whip” hype fade with a solid showing. “German Whip”, which if nothing else says a lot about our BMW/Mercedes Benz fixation over here, drops on April 13^th.
