Martin Garrix recruits across genres for "Wizard" remix pack

In the waning months of 2013, Martin Garrix and Jay Hardway’s “Wizard” proved to be the festival anthem of the year’s back half, pulling a similar percussion-heavy formula that made “Animals” such a hit.  From its premiere at Amsterdam Dance Event (while Garrix made a cameo during Tiesto’s set) to its popularity in December podcasts, there’s no denying the track’s influence during main room’s biggest year yet. With buzzing synths and a pounding kick drum, the track is still billed off by many as the same old big-room style with little creativity added. However, the recently released remix pack shows anything but the usual approach.

French wonder boy Tchami continues his blazing start to 2014 with a beautiful blend of garage and nu disco in his take, dropping a raw bassline in place of airy percussion of the original. Add in a soulful sample that keeps the name of the title track and big room progressive morphs into sexy house.

Next up is a rave trap take from Dutch trio Yellow Claw, with a mega-kick that even hints at hardstyle distortion during the buildup. While the former focuses on a more melodic take, Hawkins plays out the biggest surprise of the four, changning up the tempo halfway through for a moombahton meets Middle Eastern drop, similar to the style on his recent original “Soldier”.
