This is probably the closest thing we'll all get to see in regards to any activity from the infamous electronic duo Ratatat. Evan Mast, who is one half of Ratatat, took up a side project called E.VAX to explore the wonderful world of electronic music on his own. His first release was way back in 2001, which was called Parking Lot Music. Since then, he has sporadically released tunes from time to time. However, there was quite a considerable large gap of inactivity for E.VAX until the production of the movie The Great Gatsby, where it featured the song called "100$ Bill" featuring Jay-Z.
As of now, it seems E.VAX is getting its first real breath of life again with his latest tune "Daughters". It's authenticity is without question. The quirkiness of synths and the complex layering of texture and effects is nostalgic to that of Ratatat. What is really intriguing that his particular track showcases a dramatic departure in style utilized in Parking Lot Music. In that album, you'll hear an eclectic arrangements of glitch-like fillers instead of edgy percussion. Parking Lot Music, as it seems, was trying to depart from the sounds of Ratatat. However, Mast concocted a song that closely resembles something that he and his partner in crime would cook up. Whatever the reasons may be for his dramatic style change and the sudden revival of E.VAX itself, we're glad to see at least one of them is for sure still in the game.
