There is relatively little known about British singer and composer Tom Misch. If you stumbled upon last week's episode of Soulection Radio, you may remember DJ Joe Kay singing the eighteen year old's praises, then playing five of his songs one after the other. As each track came to a close and transitioned into the next, it became clearer to see that Kay had not been exaggerating. Misch may be young, but his talent for composing and producing unique instrumentals already outpaces many veterans. When combined with his mellow tenor vocals and his mysterious up-and-coming persona, his music becomes an irresistible breath of fresh air.

Misch's latest offering, "You Got Me Flying," sounds like a trip back to the ragtime "Charleston Age," thanks impart to the horns he samples. Every free moment is filled with bright brass notes that may have been pilfered from a seventies theme song: incredibly cheery and optimistic. When his relatively ambivalent vocals are layered on top, they create a wonderful contrast that smooths the entire experience out. Instead of being poppy or dated, it comes across as an interesting weed laced experiment. Furthermore, the young producer plays multiple instruments, frequently incorporating these skills into his music, which gives him more tools to use to explore a unique sound. On this song, his guitar playing throws a nice soulful blues groove to the mix.

In case you thought he was a one hit wonder, check out the instrumental posted above. "Keep Moving" and "You Got Me Flying" should both be a part of a beat tape he is planning on dropping March 14th. However, you shouldn't wait until then to get more immersed in Misch's music; head over to his soundcloud as soon as possible. There is a cache of gorgeous production and collaborations, you will not leave disappointed.
