North Carolina native producer PHNTM really blindsided us. He seemed to have come out of nowhere, or at least out of the woodworks. We didn't catch any glimpse of PHNTM until his latest EP Forgiveness II made a blip on the radar about a month ago. This particular producer likes to add hints of trap into his lacings, and tends to give a chill, atmospheric spin to his beats. But regardless of these characteristics, each of his beats still bang the big one.
His latest blend roots down on Justin Bieber's song "Hold Tight". PHNTM utilizes looped vocal samples and a simple trap-like beat to keep things tidy and clean, which tends to be a reoccurring trend in his releases. He flips Bieber's tune into a mid-paced head banger while keeping the base beat mostly intact to give a nod towards the foundation of the original song. He does a wonderful job in taking a song from a major mainstream pop star and shaking it up to appeal to those who like mingle around in the underground.
Bieber has been out of control as of late, but PHNTM came from the skies, swooping down for a saving dive. Stream his flip below.
