The Dopplegangaz remind us of rap's good ol' days with "Fall Thru"

I didn’t even know they made Hip Hop like this anymore; The Doppelgangaz have revived a completely unpretentious style of Hip Hop that many thought was lost to the depths of the 90’s; no gimmicks, auto tune or ridiculous samples – instead the New York duo bless us with a cathartic beat, decent lyrics and a positivity we could all do with tapping into from time to time: 'I don’t wanna ball if we all can’t too'.

Although we’re only at the end of February, this one’s warmer than June and wonderfully evocative of everything good about the summer months. The track is taken from their fourth album Peace Kehd and may go somewhat unsung as far as main stream plaudits go; however, any self-proclaimed rap aficionado will be well acquainted with the skills and sounds of EP and Matter Ov Fact.

Whether or not they will eventually go on to receive main stream acclaim after all these years is unclear – as well as totally irrelevant; in fact, the blatant disregard for anything other than making rap music is what makes this track so great, not to mention a stern indication that these two are sure continue their epic journey through the underground scene for many more years to come. There's an unmistakably genuine craftsmanship on display here, the type of which only two seasoned veterans could conjure up. It’s safe to assume this is a brand the old guard – namely the likes of Jazzy Jeff, Pete Rock and C L Smooth -could all be proud of.

“Fall Thru” is available to listen to below via. The Doppelgangaz Soundcloud, or you can download the track and album Peace Kehd on their iTunes page.
