Current popular opinion dictates that heavy rusty brostep-style dubstep is old news, but late night throw-down parties aren't started with weird off-kilter ambient beats. Say what you want, but if a heavy dnb break or growling dubstep hook makes an appearance in a set at Avalon Hollywood or Boiler Room, the room will undoubtedly respond. That's not to say every track in the style is noteworthy—far from it—but when a solid production comes around it nullifies the hate and reaffirms the love.
With only one remix readily available to the masses, Canadian producer Silverback is back with another, this time of Pegboard Nerds' "Bassline Kickin'". The original is pretty heavily rooted in electrohouse, but has the head-banging weight of drum & bass. Silverback reformatted the track's direction into a rusty industrial through the addition of a metallic growl and basement-reverbed background snare roll. Faint hints of the infamous hardstyle pitched kick and clap appear in the builds and breakdowns complimenting the epitomized dirtiness of North American dubstep, while the decay and complexity of the percussive crash and hihats fill any remaining sonic free space.
Silverback's remix of "Bassline Kickin'" is sure to get you on your feet and motivated to kick ass at whatever task you embark on, be it exercising, cleaning, or simply partying your face off.
