When twenty year-old Brit Elli Ingram burst onto the scene at the start of 2013 with her intricately beautiful rendition of Kendrick Lamar's "Poetic Justice", she turned heads instantly with her soulfully touched vocals that oozed passion and control. Following the success that her cover of "Poetic Justice" created, the young Brighton native then released her Sober EP. The six track project was generally well received by fans and critics alike, as her unique sound and style blended together to give 2013 one of the most underrated projects that came out during that period.
As 2014 is well underway and a flurry of good releases already starting to emerge, Elli has released the visuals to her latest single "When It Was Dark". The Emil Nava (who worked on her previous video for "Mad Love") directed visuals take a more holy form, as we see Ingram parading in and around a church, dressed head to toe in black, giving a more dark and sinister feel to the track. Whilst the track itself has a funked up, soulful feel to it, as Elli passionately sings her way across the bass rich beat accompanied by horns and some kickin' drums.
"When It Was Dark" marks Elli Ingram's major label debut on Island Records, and if this is the marker for future projects and tracks, then she is undoubtedly set for super stardom as she fights to be top of the pile. You can peep the visuals for "When It Was Dark" below, and be sure to keep your eyes and ears locked onto EARMILK, for all the latest from Elli!
