Techno can be very tricky for me, a many-headed monster that thrills and chills in one fell swoop. While many may prefer the genre's deeper, more minimal side, my electro/progressive heart needs techno with a bit more umph. That's where artists like Balthazar & JackRock come in, a Bulgarian electronic dup who caught my attention after a collaboration with one of my favorites, Spartaque. Having been producing for a decade now, the two have mastered dark, edgy, and unrelenting beats, and furthered their reach through their own label, Renesanz. Today they release a 2-track EP, consisting of the songs "Vintage" and "Drone". Though slightly understated when compared to my favorites, the tracks still feature a wealth of bass coupled with ear-catching electro twinges.
