All hail the new King Midas: Goldroom heads to NYC

After this week’s dismal weather, crawling commutes, and countless pairs of cold, wet socks, New Yorkers are probably going to need a little light to guide us through these dark days. Thankfully, a flaming star will be descending onto these sad streets to melt our frozen hearts in the form of brilliant producer Josh Legg, also known as Goldroom. On Saturday, January 25th, this Boston-native will be bringing the laidback sounds of balmy L.A., where he currently resides, to Midtown’s newest stab at a decent nightclub, Slake. Goldroom will be sharing the spotlight with California talent Viceroy, whose motto “summertime, all the time” is much appreciated, and fellow New Yorker Alex English, who must be ready for some sunny summer tracks as well.

While it’s safe to say we’re ready to escape along side Legg’s signature dreamy synths and tropical disco grooves, we were lucky enough to get his fresh take on NYC and the things he loves about it. Hopefully, it will remind us of how fortunate we are and help us not to go too stir-crazy waiting for that golden glow that only the blazing sun and glorious music can bring us:

"As a preface, I grew up in Boston and have some latent little brother feelings about New York. I tend to take everything I see/hear/eat/drink in New York looking through the lens of a Bostonian, which probably affects what I like about the city. Since moving to Los Angeles, I've had the pleasure of experiencing New York in a totally new light though. Getting to travel to the city to play shows has made me begrudgingly fall in love with the city."

Josh has also got some favorite spots to hang in when he visits New York. Check them out below, and maybe you'll run into the producer and his band mates there enjoying their visit.

Where to eat before a show:
The Meatball Shop on Bedford in Williamsburg is a total gem. Zero pretense, a great vibe, and some of the best meatballs I've ever had.

Where to drink before a show:

The Dark and Stormy at rooftop bar at The Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn is a personal favorite of mine. Every show I've played at Brooklyn Bowl has been preceded by a trip up to the roof of The Wythe.

Where to eat after a show:
Punjabi Grocery & Deli. A taxi driver mainstay and after show must-have, they have better Indian food than I've had at any restaurant in LA. The secret best part is that the leftovers might taste even better the next day.

Where to drink after a show:
Anywhere. At Any Time. If there's anything that bothers me most about living in Los Angeles, it's having bars close at 2am.

My favorite slice:
A list of things about NYC would be complete without pizza, so I'll end this by saying that my favorite pie comes from Paulie Gee's in Greenpoint.
