Tinashe – "2 On" (Feat. Schoolboy Q)

The female R&B world has been pretty much dominated by one woman in recent times, Beyonce, who's latest album which was only released digitally for the first few days (and with no promo), sold over 600,000 units in its first week. So to any female vocalist, the current market may seem like a daunting one, but there is one feisty vocalist who's making huge waves of her own; Tinashe.

The Kentucky native released her Black Water mixtape late last November, and the project was received well amongst her loyal fan base and music critics. Black Water was merely the warm up for her major label debut album on RCA Records, which is due this year, and this week we've been blessed with the first single to be taken from that project, "2 On". With LA native and sought-after producer DJ Mustard on the boards, who brings his trademark style of club-orientated hip hop to the table, the 20 year old vocalist soothes us with her polished voices, and she slides over the beat. TDE signee (and one of my personal favourite emcee's around right now) Schoolboy Q drops by to add a really gritty verse in typical Q style to round the track off.

"2 On" is definitely a foray into the more mainstream R&B ring for Tinashe, but she delivers an easy to digest slice of club R&B gold. With the added verse from Schoolboy Q giving the track an extra hip hop flavour, if the young songstress follows in the same vain, I can see her album being a real stellar release. You can stream "2 On" below, and look out for both Tinashe's and Schoolboy Q's albums dropping this year!
