Last Fall the Portuguese disco funk master Luis Clara Gomes, aka Moullinex, released his debut album Flora via the Munich-based Gomma Records—revealing new age, yet throw-back disco melodies oozing with timeless appeal. Known for his plethora of talents, the singer/music producer/video producer/label head has made glittering productions for the past several years, while also co-founding his own imprint Discotexas alongside Xinobi.
The original version of "To Be Clear" transports listeners back in time with funk allure, allowing the female vocalist Iwona Skwarek to flaunt the power of soulful voice. Zimmer's remix, which comes courtesy of Discotexas, pitches down the femininity, incorporating cascading piano chords and tropical drum kicks to create a nu disco interpretation. Offering up what the Parisian producer calls horizontal disco, Zimmer reveals to listeners that Moullinex is one of his main influences via Soundcloud.
