Canadian twins Tegan and Sara have always been enchanting, and their latest album Heartthrob was no exception. The first track, “Closer,” is the perfect pastiche of modern pop and ‘80s throwback—qualities backstroke. didn’t discard with his latest remix.
Repeating reverbed vocals with an opening filter start the song like we’re surfacing in deep water. With ornaments like The Postal Services and percussion like Blood Diamonds, the track takes on almost tropical house vibes. The sisters’ vocals buoy us back up into pop territory, taming the sway and tide of bass and synth. What makes it truly special is the mix. All of these elements together make this track perfect for so many things: dancing, drinking, thinking, singing. Try as you might, you won’t be able to get close enough.
