Joel Compass first caught the ears of EARMILK staffers with his R&B slow jam "Fucked Up" back in May, before the track made its Black Butter Records debut on the 4-track Astronaut EP. Gaining praise for his plethora of talents, the British singer/song writer/producer has been rising to success with help from BBC Radio 1 and 1 Xtra, of course. The 20-year-old trifecta has written lyrics for likes of Rita Ora and produced beats for John Legend, but now seems to be effortlessly making a name for himself in his own right.
Compass unveiled "Run" a little over a month after his EP premiere, giving fans another soulful output dripping in dark R&B emotion. Now the track has received reworks from High Contrast and Armeria. While High Contrast keeps the same down tempo appeal, Armeria turns up the BMPs to deliver an entirely new production. A fellow British producer, the lesser known Armeria works in synthesized bass plugs and a falsetto vocal hook to transform the track from the bedroom to the dance floor.
