Slip gently into a deep sleep as London native, Marika Hackman, lullabies you into blissful oblivion with the second track of her upcoming EP Sugar Blind "Itchy Teeth." The title of this track caught my eye as I embarked on one of my many random music searches. "What in the world are itchy teeth," I wondered. After clicking play to find out, I found myself looking forward to replaying this beautiful song until I felt completely engulfed in the poetic lyrics. Hackman has the talent of molding her graceful vocals with melancholy imagery. Beginning her song with the line, "I've been left to lick my wounds for too long…" Hackman establishes a dark mood that's daintily carried with the comforting sound of strings and simple guitar strokes. "Itchy Teeth" is a sorrowful love song that details the often hard to describe feelings and tastes that we experience during times of both loneliness and comfort. It's been a while since I've felt truly serenaded so coming across this gem was something I couldn't help but be grateful for. This track was my gateway drug to the world of Marika Hackman and I hope it's the same for you.
Sugar Blind is set for release via Dirty Hit on Dec. 09 so keep your eyes and ears out for this enchanting songstress.
