Soundcloud is really a magical place. It's absolutely changing the way we discover new music and the way artists can connect to their fans. It also allows any artist to have an immediate audience, with exposure for their music that can be unlocked with a simple tag of the right keyword. Such was the case with my discovery of Canadian producer and DJ Moiez. While searching the troves of remixes of Zedd's "Clarity" last year, I stumbled upon his club remix of the song, which quickly reminded me that though a song can feel over-remixed, the right one can reinvigorate it just as well.

Time has passed since then, and Moiez saw huge success with his remix of "Clarity" only to go on to release more well received remixes as well as his own originals. Today, we've got a look into his career as a dance artist so far, as well as an exclusive mix to grace your ears with. Check it out and see why we're such big fans of this guy!

Earmilk: Who was your musical inspiration as a kid? And how they inspire you to make music your business?
Moiez: As a kid, I was really inspired by artists such as Linkin Park and Eminem. Both artists incorporated music into their songs that was melodically inclined and really emotional, some things that I make sure I incorporate into my own music. In high school, I was introduced to Armin Van Buuren and Tiesto, two artists who I am incredibly inspired by. I was really impressed by their ability to put out good music and run a successful business, as a result making a living out of it.  I love dance music so much more then any other type of music because dance music has the ability to bring people together.
EM: Was there a point when you knew that producing electronic music was specifically how you wanted to produce? How did you learn the ropes?
Moiez: I am completely self-taught. I learned to compose by using software programs, watching tutorials and reading manuals online. The minute I got introduced to dance music, I felt compelled to take a stab at it. I think that initial moment when I really got into dance music was when I first heard Trance. Trance music helped me transition into discovering more electronic dance music. I knew at that very moment that it was the kind of music I wanted to produce. Also, I knew a bit about producing up until then because I started producing hip-hop first; I made a full turn into creating dance music soon enough.

EM: Where did the name “Moiez” come from?
Moiez: Moiez is my first name, its unique and not many people have heard of it. No one spells it the way I do either. I felt no need to find any other name!
EM: You’ve seen a large increase in the size of your fan base recently. What do you think has changed since you started all of this?
Moiez: I am really grateful for social media and the power of the internet. The biggest impact it has had on my career is that it has helped me grasp a wide audience and has increased my ability to reach out to many more people. A larger fan base has helped me make more connections, something very important in any sort of industry. Since I started, I have been much more busy, I have been playing more shows that ever and have had the opportunity to meet some great producers, friends, and fans along the way.

EM: What’s one thing you’d want your fans to know about you?
Moiez: I want my fans to know that I am humbled by all of their support. I am really thankful that I have been given the opportunities that have crossed my path. Thank you so much to all of you that have reached out and have provided me with feedback on my music. It’s always great to see my fans involved in my career and on my social networking pages, so keep that up!
EM: We’ve all listened and loved your music, but how would you describe it yourself?
Moiez: It’s a mix between melodic house, big room and progressive trance. It’s really everything that I listen to. I try to keep things interesting by trying new things and not sticking to the same recipe. Its much more fun that way!

EM: Who have you gotten to meet that’s been most exciting? Who have you gotten to open for?
Moiez: I have had the opportunity to meet my managers and producer friends from different parts of the world. Electric Joy Ride, Justin Blau, Mysto & Pizzi, Milk N Cookies, Krewella and their management, and Project 46 are all amazing people who I have been in touch with, some at a greater level and some with a few short conversations. I have also opened for and played with some of them too. It’s really inspiring to be in contact with them and I hope to meet many more of my inspirational producers and djs in the near future.
EM: Any other styles of music that you are interested in getting involved in or testing out?
Moiez: I have been working here and there on some trap music, and adding a lot of different styles of music into my own songs. A bit of everything really!
EM: Any new and exciting projects coming up? Collaborations? Performances?
Moiez: I have quite a few originals coming up that I am very excited about, along with the usual remixes that I love to make. I have a few more undisclosed shows coming up in Canada and the US that I will be revealing soon! I am also working on music with artists such as 3lau, Milk N Cookies, Anoop Desai, and Mysto & Pizzi and a few more. So much to come this year so stay tuned!
