At the beginning of the year, Lil Wayne, the self-proclaimed “best rapper alive” released his highly anticipated album I Am Not A Human Being II to a frenzy of mixed reviews. The record simply lacked the classic flare and creativity of a normal Weezy album, and fans automatically started writing him off. His newest mixtape Dedication 5 is an attempt to silence those harsh critics. Unfortunately, he only makes them louder. Amongst a slew of punch lines, metaphors and references to the female anatomy, Lil Tunechi finds himself trying to remix the years most popular songs with corny verses. However, one standout track gives fans a ray of hope for that old Wayne sound, the storyteller and innovator.
“You Song” features the increasingly popular Chance The Rapper in a witty and artistic version of a love song. As Chance states, “this is not a love song, this is a you song. I just happen to love you.” The witty proclamation leads into the Young Money rappers most conscious verse in quite some time. “When you say I love you I stutter and say I love you too. It’s Wayne’s world she said what is this world coming to.”
