With all of the hype surrounding Four Tet's newest original song "Kool FM" his latest remix of the synth pop band Diana's "Perpetual Surrender" could easily be overlooked. However after a few listens it is easy to understand that this would be a mistake as Four Tet's remix is a relaxing and exploring venture into mellow soundscapes.
While the Four Tet remix of "Perpetual Surrender" starts out with a minimalistic experimental sound it faces a steady climb where sampled layers work to create an open ambience. Once the groovy bass kicks in at the 2:40 mark the track never looks back as listeners are led into a funky, yet equally grounded groove and soothing vocals lead the way as simplistic synth melodies and a sax solo take hold. The reworking comes at the perfect time as Diana are in the midst of promoting a self-titled album on Jagjaguwar, slated for August.
