Siberian DJ and producer Nina Kraviz remains one of today’s most discussed and sought after artists within the deep house community. Bursting into a busy orbit that has her DJ’ing events at full capacity around the globe, you may also recognize her as the star of Resident Advisor’s short film series, Between the Beats: Nina Kraviz, that explores what life on the road is like for the DJ once the decks stop spinning. Showing no sign of weariness, Kraviz (finally!) delivers the next item on her agenda: the DVS1 remixes of her track "Best Friend". Originally featured on her debut and self-titled LP that dropped in 2012 under the Rekids imprint, “Best Friend” becomes the next tune off the label's album release that gets reworked into a two track interpretation by Minneapolis native and techno aficionado, DVS1.

“Best Friend" (DVS1 Forever Mix) is the first of the remixes that brews together a hypnotizing realm of deep house and IDM creating a warm atmosphere around the original’s lo-fi and melancholic whispering tone. The soft synths with the nimble claps linger around the song’s groove, which lock-in a tender thrill that slowly works up a beautifully underwhelming resolve at the end. Next, the “Best Friend" (DVS1 Dub Test Mix) segues smoothly as the functions of the first remix remain present, only this time the track constructs its core around a denser dub-oriented vibe that focuses on the synth/ rhythmic sticks (as opposed to the traditional focus on the bass line), helping create a dim harmony that seeps deeper and turns into a vaporous outro at the end.

Showcasing a perfect combination of genre blending between Kraviz’s more sensuous house tendencies and DVS1’s bass infused techno rhythms, the final product becomes a tactile rendition of what you get in between the two. Be sure to get your physical copy before the pressing runs out.
