Building off of a string of seven successful releases, Gold Nite Records proprietors The Rox have settled in behind the mixing desk to helm their first EP to be released on their own imprint. Over the span of six months, Gold Nite has found its way into a slew of tastemaker crates including the likes of Richie Hawtin and Tiga with Illuminate being no exception by already garnering support from Maceo Plex and Christian Martin to name a few.
Our pick of the litter on the EP is "EZ", a UK Juke inspired jam with enough Hackney attitude and 808 rim shots to find itself into an Addison Groove or XXXY set. Holding down remix duties on "EZ" is California's Astronomar. Opting to leave the synths at home, Astronomar takes "EZ" straight to the jungle with a myriad of percussion culminating in a bongo breakdown. Beatnik drum circles would have been a lot more tolerable if that had Astronomar's sense of sound design.
If DJ Funk ever signed to do a release for Institubes it might sound a little bit like "Pills". An infectious sing-along with catchy vocal samples, 90's inspired chord stacks and New Wave tom fills make for the perfect soundtrack to the summer.
Illuminate is out now wherever you purchase your digital music.
