Find them at basement nights and warehouse one-offs reaching from New York to Montreal and overseas Berlin, a collect of conneisseuring clubbers. Void of tasteless vagabonds and cheap standards, looking to give credit where credit is due. The recent flood of clichéd counterfeits has made most music today better left unsaid, but it's the rumours stuck in our head that tug at our ego and give us the need to shine light. A compulsive urge to spread from one ear to the next, to draw a line between bottle service cogs and what is honestly the cutting edge of electronic dance music. There's no room for Vegas roller coasters or casual chit chat, just Night Rumours worth spreading.
This week I've taken the best of nearly one hundred Night Rumours and created a two hour mix that starts with Breach and Para One and moves into Len Faki, Pig & Dan, and Julio Bashmore. Since we haven't posted Night Rumours in a few months, consider this your 2013 crash course in techno.
Bicep
Stash
Aus Music; 2013-04-15
AUS1346
Bicep has been busy since our last Night Rumours post and with releases on Aus Music and KMS Records, this duo is quickly making an imprint on the underground. Their disco infused sound has been making the rounds lately and their Stash EP comes stacked full of quality dance music. Stash is featured on Defected's Ibizi 2013 compilation that came out a few weeks back, solidifying this release as one of the year's top. Following up that they dropped Vision of Love, showcasing some classic house vibes on Kevin Saunderson's label. The guys will be making appearances around Europe for the rest of the summer including Parklife & Glastonbury Festivals after a recent North American stint.
Jori Hulkkonen & Tiga
Trust Your Body (John Roman Remix)
Turbo Recordings; 2013-05-27
TURBO145BPN
With an original from Canadian Turbo Recordings boss Tiga and Finish veteren Jori Hulkkonen, we expected nothing but the best from the EP, which contains remixes from some of today's brightest names in techno, including Danny Daze, joeFarr, and highlighted by fellow Canadian John Roman. After his recent Dance With Me release with Gina Turner that received remix support from Chocolate Puma, John comes back with a touch of acid to pump up the original with an energy that we've seen throughout his recent work, and while chatting briefly with him the other day he hinted at some upcoming originals, collaborations, and a re-issue of his highly praised Revisions project.

Julio Bashmore & Kowton
Mirror Song
Boardwalk Records LTD; 2013-05-26
BW005B
It's been a minute since we've heard anything new from UK ginger wonderboy Julio Bashmore, but his latest release with Kowton shows us why he continues to stand out as one of the top producers in the game year in and year our. The title track features an aggressive hi-hat pattern that doesn't quit and vocals that will have you hooked, but the B side is what really does it for me. "And What?" dives into the darker side and makes a perfect DJ tool in any techno set. Heavy use of toms and claps scattered over a pounding kick, the track never really drops but as we've learnt in years passed to trust him because, Julio always seems to be on the forefront of everything that's new.
Copy Paste Soul
Blink
Exploited; 2013-05-06
EXPDIGITAL36
Rising out of obscurity in 2012, Copy Paste Soul, a sub heavy, UK and techno inspired deep house project has only continued to impress this year. With the release of Blink on Exploited last month it's clear he is running with the big guys, as the release showcases two melodic, emotive techno tracks that build into dance bliss. Also featured here today is his more recent remix of Hugo's "Boot to Boot", and that comes after his Photek remix from a few weeks back – Copy Paste Soul already holds a stacked release catalogue under this relatively new moniker, it will be exciting to see where he goes from here.
Bleaching Agent
Contour Grip EP
Komisch; 2013-05-13
KOMISCH014D
Fresh off his release on Mira (we couldn't even find a photo of him so we used his previous Mira album artwork for it!), UK newcomer Bleaching Agent brings a stripped down dark techno sound and on this 3 track Contour Grip EP for Komisch he provides all the essentials for a peak time set standard. After spending a considerable amount of my weekend at Movement in the Underground Stage, I could see this fitting in perfectly. My go-to track off the release is "Twwpk", showcasing a complex drum pattern that is drowned out with a screeching fluttering stab, while "Jain" and "Compare" are equally dark and deserve full recognition on a standout release.
