Mashup Monday - We're back again with some of the freshest mashes to start your week off right. These are the mashes that are worth hearing, so stop you're searching and instead settle down at your computer... turn up your speakers... and get ready for that sweet nectar that only EARMILK can give ya. Let's GO!
What better way to start of this week's segment than with an exclusive leak off of Scott Melker's (or The Melker Project) upcoming Skeetwood Mac EP. The brilliance behind this EP is that Melker breaks away from the norm of just mashing electronic music, but rather refocuses on the classics. In this case, it's Fleetwood Mac taking the spotlight of the EP. For "The (2) Chain (z)", we hear the raw and increasingly popular 2 Chainz rap-serenading over Fleetwood's "The Chain". Genius and unique, which makes me look forward to Skeetwood Mac dropping on February 4.
If I had to think of an artist that continuously comes up with mashup gems, Carlos Serrano would quickly come to mind. With bona-fide hits such as his "Something About The Fire" (Adele x Daft Punk) and "Touch The Sky" (Kanye West x The xx) , Serrano delivers another mash worthy of his impressive repertoire in "Protolife" (Kanye West x Kavinsky). The funkadelic feel that Kanye inherits courtesy of Kavinsky is brought to the forefront quickly and dramatically, leaving a wondrous feeling in your ears.
Perhaps the most unique sounding mashup is delivered to us by D.veloped. With cascading harps and rhythmic guitar strums gracing us during the intro, I was left intrigued because this was a new direction in D's sound. As the seconds ticked on by, and I was able to identify more prominent vocal samples such as Dada Life, Vanilla Ice, and Cherub, I could safely say that I was grooving. While this track has original samples mixed in, the ingenuity of the mash itself makes it stand apart in this group.
With a stupendous supply of mashups below ranging from Robin Skouteris, The Hood Internet, DJ Chuckie, Mashup Germany, The White Panda, PRFFTT & Svyable, and others, I must say it was quite nice getting back into the mashup-listening/mashup-searching game. So enjoy, and as always leave feedback in the comments below!
