As half of Parts & Labor, Dan Friel's become an expert on making both noise and trouble. His solo expeditions take him deeper into a minimal abrasiveness; under his own name, he cuts out rough slices of sound that somehow coalesce into addictive, raspy grooves. Now, he's given us the first glimpse at his upcoming Total Folklore LP. The accurately titled "Thumper" shivers around rusty spikes of percussion. It's a prickly mouthful, but one worth swallowing.
