"Fuck the industry—We out to take this shit over. We make music for the streets… PGM is a platform for the people’s voice." That's sound-chemist DJ Child who started Project Groundation Massive in 2003 and since then has produced too many mixtapes, original albums and projects to even begin listing.

DJ Child's music is his life. It's roots and streets, reggae and hip-hop. It's part rasta sensibility and part rap revolutionary. A farmer, producer, musician, writer, and artist, Child designs a music architecture that reaches for a higher strength and yet has a foundation grounded deep in reality. "We make roots music for farmers to plant their crops to," he says, "we make block music for the souljahs grindin’ in the streets day and night."

At the PGM lab in East Oakland, CA, the aim of the Massive is to produce music with meaning or word-sound-power. DJ Child has a unique relationship with many hip-hop and reggae artists so the power behind his music and words is backed by some of the biggest names in the industry right now. Child notes that his musical family is talented but at the end of the day they are good humans beings too. And that's what PGM is all about.

We start with the first five tracks off PGM Vol 33. "Revolutionary Culture" Book 2. M1 of Dead Prez, Konshens and Jah Dan host this reggae/hip-hop crossover mixtape and unlike a lot of conscientious music that is out there these days, the PGM sound is rich, deeply layered and perceptive.

"Hotta Fyah" (Remix) and "Children of the Light" are two of my favorite tracks from compilation albums Forward Ever + Backward Never featuring Lutan Fyah, Jah Dan, M1 of Dead Prez, Sizzla, Winstrong, K’naan, Abijah, and Umi amongst others.

Last but not last here are a few tracks off Politrikkks. This unique and rare volume is described by DJ Child as a 1970′s roots and culture throwback project, focused on the Babylonian system and the way it affects us through the lies and deception of the media.

Arguably one of the hardest working artists in the industry right now, DJ Child will soon be releasing a mixtape/album called War of the Gods with all original songs. It's hosted by M1 and features Mos Def, Sizzla, Royce Da 5'9, Crooked I, A-Alikes, Reef the Lost Cauze (Army of the Pharoes/Jedi Mind Tricks), Jahdan Blakkamoore and many more. Also in the works are solo albums with support from M1, Jahdan Blakkamoore, Jacka & Husalah of the Mob Figaz and Umi of P.O.W.

Visit the Project Groundation official site for even more selection and while you're at it, listen to all the music, check out the art projects, and buy some gear from the PGM clothing line.
