Roc Nation's prized UK import Rita Ora has a thing for covers. This past Tuesday the UK vocalist held a private concert at NYC's Gramercy Theatre and took the stage to perform a cover of Gotye's immensely popular indie pop single"Somebody That I Used To Know". Yes, yes I am well aware nearly every one and their untalented next door neighbor has tried their hand at covering the tune.
I suppose it's only fitting that Rita to upon herself to take a stab at the recently dethroned pop song of the moment. Overkill or not, Rita is among a growing group of female R&B singers who have taken a crack at putting a soulful spin on the Top 40 pop tune which has been covered, flipped, remixed and re-imagined by artists from a large spectrum of genres. Ora's cover gets some cool points for having among other things, a unique dub sound and vibe. As for vocals, Rita goes in for the kill adding a slew of vocal runs with somewhat mixed results.
Unfortunately the video is cut short right around the two-minute mark just as the audio quality gets a bit sketchy. Nevertheless, Check out the clip below, and let us know what you think.[via GFM]
