With the steady coaxing of allies like Questlove and Chris Rock, neo-soul makes a momentous comeback through D'Angelo, the once troubled but ever talented singer and multi-instrumentalist. As the sun on his eleven year hiatus from music making seems to be setting, the dawn of a career rebirth emerges: D'Angelo is back and ready to sing for us.

Interestingly enough, it wasn't so much music that brought him back as much as it was what music did to his good friends who had passed and what he realized he wasn't doing with his own work. In this month's issue of GQ, D'Angelo intimately shares how the death of close friend Dilla propelled him to straighten up and fly right, while others including Janis Gaye, second wife of Marvin Gaye, Angie Stone and Common speak on why we really need D'Angelo to keep on singing. Watch an outtake of D'Angelo performing at his GQ shoot below and read the full article here.
