Jonathan Boulet – "This Song Is Called Ragged"

Fostering some of my favorite artists as of late, Australia has been a seismic hotbed for producing talented young musicians. Transgressing the thousands of miles separating the US and Australia, artists such as Oliver Tank, Last Dinosaurs, and San Cisco, have found their music well-received, nestling itself onto our iPods and iPhones. The newest Aussie to find their way into my rotation has been the singer/songwriter Jonathan Boulet.

The Sydney, Australia, resident specializes in crafting a swirling, percussion driven indie-pop. Hitting the music scene with his self-titled debut in 2009, Jonathan has been tantalizing fans for the past year with previews of his upcoming second album, We Keep The Beat, Found The Sound, See The Need, Start The Heart, scheduled to make its US release June 12 on Modular Records. Last week, Jonathan released his latest glimpse of the album with a track entitled "This Song is Called Raggard." Much like his previous works, "This Song is Called Raggard"  falls into the "infectiously uplifting" classification, propelled by xylophone and crashing symbols. The song radiates warmth, a perfect prelude to a quickly approaching summer.

If you enjoy "This Song is Called Raggard," be sure to check out these other tracks from We Keep The Beat, Found The Sound, See The Need, Start The Heart. I have also included a remix of Jonathan's song "You're A Animal" by fellow countrymen Fishing. The remix tempers the percussion, choosing instead to highlight the chanting chorus and a supportive morphing electronic identity.
