Artist Remixed – Daft Punk [Part 2]

There are thousands of popular artists out there today making new singles all the time. With the increase of bedroom producers, though, the ability to simply download a whole studio that you can use right on your lap has made original songs more scarce. Now it seems that you're finding tens of thousands of remixes by artists with more and more ludicrous names, leaving you wondering, "Transexual Viking Sword Bro- what?" This weekly segment will bring you the popular remixes and the never heard of "Transexual Viking Sword Brothers" remixes of a (common) artist's singles. From all these bedroom producers we are seeing one thing, and that is absolutely fantastic, manipulated, warped remixes.

Coming back as strong as ever, Part 2.

One of the most common artists that's requested for "Artist Remixed", besides Ellie Goulding, Justice and Adele, is Daft Punk (go figure). I thought I would never make an "Artist Remixed – Daft Punk" because the amount of remixes would have been ridiculous. Again, this week there were a stupid amount of remixes that I found and a lot had to be cut because you would have been sitting in front of your computer for days trying to listen to them all. In [Part 2] I've featured remixes from their two latest albums, Human After All and the soundtrack that they made to Tron.

To begin this post, as I began "Artist Remixed – Skrillex," I present an amazing visual mashup of Daft Punk. All the songs are structured uniquely, layered over one another and matched to different colours so you can really see the anatomy of a mashup. This is a great piece of art aswell as a mashup made by Cameron Adams. You can watch the visual show here. The visualization works best on Chrome or Safari (so if you're using Internet Explorer, it's time to upgrade).

Electro Remixes [First Chunk]

Since there were so many electro remixes I've split them into two different chunks in no particular order. I found a lot of classic remixes like NTEIBINT and The Glitch Mob's heavy beat remixes of "Derezzed". You also have your popular remix of "End of Line" by NeeliXxX which pays tribute to Daft Punk's original sounds since it is very digital electro. We Are Crisis Children's remix is very beat oriented, editing and chopping the sounds in the original. Alter Ego's remix is another great electro remix with a slow beginning which leads into a static-electric remix.  My highlights though for this first chunk would have to be on Rhythm Scholar's remix which starts off with a light melody but quickly turns into funk electro remix "Derezzed".

Dubstep Remixes

The handful of dubstep remixes I found were few but really impressive. Starting with one of the more popular remixes that I found, Pretty Lights makes a typical smooth dubstep track that works near perfectly with Daft Punk. The Architekt remix is another amazing track that starts with the vocals from the original and builds to a filthy drop, one of my favourite dubstep remixes here. Another really popular remix that I found was Algeronic's remix of "Digital Love", I personally felt this remix was alright, it has an amazing wobble drop and uses the original pop sounds to its advantage. The Jester remix is a very fast paced remix combined with choppy synths. My highlight of all the dubstep remixes would have to be (technically speaking a 'drumstep remix') System-D's remix of "Robot Rock". The remix starts off with the original pace but speeds up at the drop into a drumstep massacre. Enjoy.

House Remixes

One of the most popular remixes would have to be Avicii's, which, after the first couple of seconds, you can clearly tell it's an Avicii although I hear hardly any of the original "Derezzed". The Silenx remix of "The Grid" is another softer house remix but has the suspense from the original song just with an extended beat. My highlights for house remixes would have to be the Gilles Chateaubriant and Toma Caliope remix because it adds an amazing beat onto the original. There is not a ton of change but enough that I gave it highlights so hey, they must be doing something right. Enjoy.

Disco Remixes

I've included several disco remixes that are a combination of disco and nu-disco alike. To start off, Werewolf by Night makes a really relaxed chillwave remix of "Emotion". The Peterdragontail remix gets a little more French disco sounding, using Daft Punk's own synth to work with edited vocals. KRONO's remix is a little on the heavier side but slows down into a nice piano breakdown which gives it the nu-disco feel. My highlights though would have to be on OVERWERK's remix of "The Son of Flynn" which is a very chill wave song that has a little suspense as it builds throughout. OVERWERK takes the simplicity of the original and adds his own electro disco touches. Enjoy.

Mashups

Was I just not looking in the right place? Are there a ton more mashups and I just couldn't find them? Well, in any case, I can only give you one mashup this week but I am sure that it will do its justice. Statusbrown takes Deadmau5's "The Reward is Cheese" and combines it with "Technologic" into "The Reward is Technologic". Great use of both songs, enjoy.

Electro Remixes [Second Chunk]

In the second chunk of electro remixes I feature another ton of rarely popular remixes you've most likely heard including the Justice, Soulwax, and SebastiAn remixes. Cold Blank does a great job with their typical heavy electro remixing "Robot Rock" Breakdown's remix which is a little more heavier electro than the original "Derezzed" yet does a great job at adding the right touch. Tits and Clits as usual pull through with amazing beat layered remix of "Prime Time of your Life". my highlights though would have to go to Rogerseventytwo's remix which starts off slow but builds into a electro massacre.

Overall Favourite Remix

My overall favourite remix would have to be BoyGenius's remix of "End of Line." This remix is an amazing piece of work; it has the same template for Skrillex's dubstep (that scattered/all over the place style) without the filth. It makes me think of The Glitch Mob's remix combined with Skrillex combined with Daft Punk. It's not dubstep but it has a heavy bass that throws a punch and a nice synth layered on top. Great work and make sure you check out BoyGenius's soundcloud page which you can do here.
