With four Grammy nominations, an appearance in a workout video and brushing off arguments over whiskey via Twitter, 2011 has been a big year for Justin Vernon. Since the release of Bon Iver, there have been a number of musicians and fans breaking out their instruments to perform their own versions of the songs. Some covers are good while others are bad, but a few that really stick out from the pack. One such cover includes Columbus, Ohio-based Deadwood Floats' version of "Holocene".
Deadwood Floats' version of "Holocene" stays true to the original song without making any noticeable changes. The band replaces the background guitar found with a soft piano, while the band's vocals steals the show with their ability to almost emulate Vernon's distinct high-pitch vocals. Deadwood Floats does a fantastic job to keep their cover simple, yet powerful making it one of the best Bon Iver covers I have heard in a while.
