It's Indian Summer in Boston. The air is that perfect medium blend of crisp but warm and long shadows are being cast over everything by the late afternoon sun. It couldn't be more quaint, so naturally, I am most drawn to music that drags me to the dark depths of hell. Egyptrixx is bipolar bass music that manages to feel both pulled together and dissonant, both club-worthy and entirely antisocial. The two demonic tracks below are off his upcoming limited-edition vinyl-only 12", Old Black, out November 28 on LESS Music. His debut LP, Bible Eyes, was released on Night Slugs, and everything they touch (Bok Bok, Girl Unit, Kingdom, L-VIS 1990) is gold, so you know Egyptrixx has it right.
The A-side, "Old Black", is an Earth cover that features haunting, understated vocals from Ohbijou. The B-side, "Hiawatha", continues the album's dark feel. Witch house can be a bit of a hack-genre, but when it's done right, it's awesome, and I think this might just classify as Egyptrixx's brief jaunt with witchy experimentations.
