Benny Rodrigues – It's A Spiritual Thing

Let me slip you some Dutch House. No, not the stale bicep pump that's been drowned in Top 40 money as of late. I'm pointing to one of the early birds, Benny Rodrigues that has sticked to his true nature regardless of the green opportunities laid before him. Last week he threw a salute to the beginning in which the Beatport charts stand on. It's A Spiritual Thing is a 4 track tribute to timeless dance floor dreams with old school house and techno at its core. A personal soft spot for 909s and funky basslines, the B-sides on this imprint refuse to leave 1200's platter. Surrealism's "Daft Funk" remix is a stripped down alibi of classic house basics. An honest bath of steamy samples and soapy overtones that wash you in an optimism that everything is all right.

And to further showcase the array of styles this dutchman can produce, I'll toss in this buried gem from his past catalog. "Woest" tip toes along the genre lines of a border between stabby piano house, minimal techno, and straight up hardstyle. Just a taste of Benny's overlooked discography that deserves more merit with appearances on multiple BNR and Be As One Imprint releases.
