Toddla T – Watch Me Dance [Album Review]

Toddla T's sophomore album, Watch Me Dance, out August 1 on Ninja Tune (and currently available for pre-order in their store), is packed with catchy tracks with both vocal and instrumental hooks that will be going through your head all day. It's hard to even pick a couple of highlights because it's pretty much solid through and through. I foresee this album appearing in a lot of mixes in the near future (as well as being remixed by a lot of big names, with Dillon Francis's well-received Take It Back remix and a SebastiAn remix of Watch Me Dance leading the charge). The album's twitchy, funky, jungle/Latin-inspired style fits right in with the current Moombahton trend, and it features a number of guests you've definitely heard of, such as Skream, Roots Manuva, and Ms. Dynamite. Having seen Toddla T play a sick show in Boston to a pretty small crowd this past March, I hope this album helps elevate him to a greater level of well-deserved U.S. fame. The man himself says "if you're looking for tops-off jungle or 4×4 bassline tearouts you won't find them here. This is definitely still a record for clubbers, but it's the one they'll listen to at home with their mates or every day on the way to work," but I think there's a place for this album on the dancefloor as well.
