Children, take note: this is one family business you'll want to invest in.

I first heard DJ Franchise at a lounge in SF. After he set both my feet and my ears on fire, I had to know who he was for he did not play a single sour song the entire night. Lit-rally. If you understand the gravity of that last sentence, you understand just how good this fellow is. It was 90's Hip Hop and R&B Night and I was with friends nearly ten years my senior. No matter — Sir Franchise had something for every single one of us.

After going straight home to do further investigation, I was introduced to one of his more recent mixes, "Muse Music". Firstly, the mix is a "salute to the women who make our lives inspirational" which garners him 5 trillion appreciation points, just like that. Secondly, with layerings of LCD Soundsystem, Phoenix, Keys n Crates, Frank Ocean and The Hood Internet, the mix is giddy, poppish, bright and memorable, all at once. These beats and vocals go together seamlessly, like boat shoes on a hipster.

But the real ringers for me are Franchise's "The ReIntro" mixes. From Budden and Curren$y to Drake and Nicki, "The ReIntro 1" is a fine meld of some of today's most notable artists (each in their own right). Which is nice. But "The ReIntro 2" is better and it completely outshines its predecessor. On my mother, I can assure you any mix that opens with a monologue by Jay Smooth on how hip hop is not dead, will be praised like my precious Jesus on Easter Sunday. Someone roll in the canons of confetti and the light the sparklers, I am going to church on that mix. I just hope that half the people who like the commercialized artists on "ReIntro 1" can acclimate themselves to the words of the artists on "ReIntro 2".

Well now I'm getting way too excited. And speaking of excitement, should you want something a lot more sexy, the only thing lacking in "Donut Scented Candles" is a warning about practicing safe sex. I am not kidding: you and your lover can have D'Angelo, Jodeci, Alicia, Erykah and Maxwell by your bedside tonight. Go ahead and thank me later, ya crazy bed thumpers.
