There are thousands of popular artists out there today making new singles all the time. With the increase of bedroom producers though, the ability to simply download a whole studio that you can use right on your lap has made original songs more scarce. Now it seems that your finding tens of thousands of remixes by artists with more and more ludicrous names, leaving you wondering "Transexual Viking Sword Bro- what???." This weekly segment will bring you the popular remixes and the never heard of "Transexual Viking Sword Brothers" remixes of a (common) artist's singles. From all these bedroom producers we are seeing one thing, and that is absolutely fantastic, manipulated, warped remixes.
This week I've dedicated the Artist Remixed to one of my favourite electronic producers, Deadmau5. I originally had another artist in mind but after seeing his mind boggling show in Toronto at the Rogers Centre I simply had to have an artist remixed on the mastermind himself. So here it is, the remixes are pretty good but it is no easy task to be put up against Deadmau5 himself.
5 TOP REMIXES
5. Special Features Remix
Strobe is my favourite song by Deadmau5 and I knew I had to have at least one remix of Strobe in the top 5. But Deadmau5's sound is so hard to top. Especially Strobe. This track sure as hell came close, it reminds me a great deal of Madeons remix of Raise your Weapon turning the original into a whole new disco remix. Defiantly alot of upbeat disco vibes shooting left and right off this remix. Special Features takes the original break down and adds a whole new wobbly synth melody. First time I heard it I disliked it but now after listening to it several times it's safe to say that it's becoming one of my favourite remixes. Enjoy.
4. Little Bird Remix
Little Birds remix of Sofi Needs A Ladder adds a electro disco spin on the original track. It has a upbeat scratchy synth throughout which I loved and a amazing break down of Sofi's vocals chopped and looped which has me wincing everytime I hear it. The disco sounds in this shine right through, so enjoy it. I certainly did.
3. Kids at the Bar Remix
I'm really loving this remix because it has a almost moombah feel to it? Now I usually hate moombah but this remix has me thinking differently. Especially before the drop there is a small sample of Miike Snows Animal which works so well with the moombah following. The whole remix blends ever so smoothly with the original sounds.
2. Prototype Raptor Bootleg Remix
Prototype Raptor's remix is just the dubstep I've been waiting for, for such a long time. A perfect blend of the melody from the original with it's scratching synths and fidget electro. The dubstep is combined so well that you hardly think it's a remix. I'm completely loving this since I'm a wobble lover like most of you readers I imagine.
1. Noisa Remix and wait is that the Nero Remix aswell?
So this week I couldn't pick a overall favourite. I know shame on me but both remixes here are by two huge names and are both are simply worthy of this number 1 spot. I usually never pick a remix by someone already famous for number 1 and try to get you readers to learn about new artists but these two were too good to not put in number 1.
Noisia's remix is a massive dubstep track that I never really appreciated until hearing Deadmau5 play it at the Rogers Centre. This must have been such an honour for Noisia, the one remix Deadmau5 played that night was a remix of Deadmau5's biggest singles. The visuals which went with the track were shell shocking. The track has a amazing build before the drop and hearing Noisia's signature sounds makes you love it all that much more. What I would give to see this live once again…
Nero's remix takes Nero's usual heavy dubstep that really shakes your heart and combines it with Deadmau5's original upbeat/pop track. The power of this song simply shakes you out of your chair. Absolutely grasping dubstep which grabs you by the heart and shakes you. I still remember the time I heard this remix for the first time and fell in love with it for the sheer intensity of the dubstep.
FAVOURITE MASHUP
Didn't find too many mashup's that impressed me that mainly featured Deadmau5 and not just his sounds simply a part of it. What I do have though is one of my favourite mashup's ever (since I don't usually like mashups.) It has an amazing vibe and the vocals work as if they were meant to be with Animal Rights? Was it fate or just chance?…
OTHER REMIXES THAT RECEIVE HONOURABLE MENTION
There were a ton of other remixes that I found searching through the hundreds. It was so hard to weave through finding anything that came close to or beat Deadmau5's original sound since he is such an amazing producer. Other remixes that really stuck out to me are Mydnset's recent remix of Deadmau5's new single Aural Psynapse. Fytch's amazing slaughtering field of Raise your Weapon, it has just the right amount of dubstep that you need. Barletta's and Paul David's remix has amazing vocals combined with the original track and has a spunky fidget house vibe.
