After a 2013 summer season that featured 4 incredible long weekend parties with names like Seth Troxler, Guy Gerber, Tale of Us, Sasha, Hot Since 82, and more headlining, the team behind Electric Island TO (CODA/Footwork, Embrace, Platform) has seriously outdone themselves this year. Kicking off Victoria Day May 19th, this first installment features none other than Sven Vath, Daniel Avery, and Mano Le Tough, with some top notch supporting talent from Toronto. The venue is key here too, set on the island just a short ferry ride away but under the shade of some trees and with ample amounts of extra space to relax. Papa Sven on the lineup is a welcome sign for Toronto fans who haven't hosted the legend for years, but knowing the underground roots that so many in the city have the excitement is building heavily for that Monday evening coming up. For over 30 years the German DJ and producer has been one of the most recognizable faces in dance music, and his Cocoon label has steadily found it's way into the crates of every DJ earning their keep.
The fact that Sven Vath isn't even who I'm personally most excited for really says something about the depth of quality that Electric Island TO is bringing in (and remember this is just 1/4 this summer so stay tuned for another massive event on Canada Day). UK native and Fabric resident Daniel Avery makes his long awaited Toronto debut after his 2013 album struck a chord with us at EARMILK, landing him in the top 25 albums of the year. His electronic take on trippy techno is sure to set the stage for what's to come and should fit perfectly with the setting sun.
Mano Le Tough is a relative newcomer but his resume already includes some of the years best tunes, and after receiving remix treatment from the likes of Tale of Us and Dixon, he looks poised to continue the renaissance of this deep, 'romantic' as Mano might call it, brand of techno. He makes a perfect addition to a daytime mini festival like this, whether or not he goes before or after Daniel Avery is probably the only question mark surrounding this event!
