For avid music listeners of all genres, on September 28th, Sonos revealed 20 new stations and shows set to come to the newly launched Sonos Radio, an internet radio service free to all Sonos speaker owners. The original, hand-curated stations will provide listeners new ways to discover new music and sounds. The latest endeavor will boast artist stations, international stations, and even sleep stations. As we move into the fall and winter season, the new stations will feature some themed stations to get listeners in the mood. Soundtracks for the spooky season will include Horror Punk, Monster Bash, Infinite Darkness, and Fright Night or Thankful, Tanz, Joyous Kwanzaa, and Country Christmas for the holiday months. If you’re not into the themed stations, Sonos will also go international, exploring underground music scenes from Germany to The Netherlands.
The fall line-up will also include special artist-led stations from Erykah Badu and a collaboration between jazz historian and basketball great, Kareem Abdul-jabaar and Impulse! Radio. “Well listeners can expect whatever they please. I just want them to feel something. Something new, something good, something unfamiliar, something triggering, something that inspires them to peace…or war, or whatever they may need”, Badu speaks on her upcoming BADUBOTRON radio station. If you’ve never experienced the melodic and funkdafied sounds of Badu, then you can expect sounds that will redefine musical experimentation.
Kareem Abdul-Jabaar will host the new Impulse! Radio station, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the iconic label that has been a home to many jazz greats. “Jazz is like a mighty river running through the history of the African American community”, Abdul-Jabaar speaks on his passion for the genre. As a jazz historian, he will use the station to revisit and explore the roots of jazz in the Black community.
The roll out is set to begin in October with BADUBOTRON. Curations from Abdul-Jabaar, Mikael Jorgensen, and many more will follow.
