Big announcements for the French-Cuban twin duo Ibeyi. Their sophomore album Ash will be released later this month on September 29th via XL Recordings, which cue some major excitement, is only three weeks away! The upcoming release has collaborations with Meshell Ndegeocello, Chilly Gonzales, and Kamasi Washington and produced by Richard Russell, the owner of XL Recordings.

Here is the track listing for Ash:

  1.  I Carried This for Years
  2. Away Away
  3. Deathless [ft. Kamasi Washington]
  4. I Wanna Be Like You
  5. No Man Is Big Enough for My Arms
  6. Valé
  7. Waves
  8. Transmission/Michaelion [ft. Meshell Ndegeocello]
  9. Me Voy [ft. Mala Rodriguez]
  10. When Will I Learn [ft. Chilly Gonzales]
  11. Numb
  12. Ash

Following the album release news, Ibeyi dropped the first single "Deathless"  featuring jazzy saxophonist Kamasi Washington, along with a music video for the single. The inspiration behind the song was the unwarranted arrest of Lisa-Kainde at sixteen years old by French police.

In a press release Lisa-Kainde explained, "I was writing Deathless as an anthem for everybody! For every minority. For everybody that feels that they are nothing, that feels small, that feels not cared about and I want them to listen to our song and for three minutes feel large, powerful, deathless. I have a huge amount of respect for people who fought for, what I think, are my rights today and if we all sing together 'We are deathless,' they will be living through us into a better world."

The music video was directed by Ed Morris, who previously directed all music videos for the debut self titled album and also recently directed music videos for Massive Attack. The video is a loop of twins Lisa-Kainde and Naomi Diaz giving birth to one another, fitting for the name of the song, and giving imagery of an endless circle of life where the spirit is born from within and is deathless.

The album release will be followed by a world tour kicking off in France and ending in Belgium. Singer theMIND will be opening for all North American dates. Buy your tickets here!
