Hozier's "Take Me To Church" is without a doubt one of the most recognizable songs out. It's been used in everything from commercials to television shows. Now, Spotify has announced that the moody tune is the most shared song on its streaming service this year. Spotify also crowned Hozier their Spotlight Breakout star for 2014. "Take Me To Church," has also topped their global chart with beyond 87 Million streams thus far. It also sits atop Shazam's worldwide chart.
Spotify has suggested that Hozier is the "first tangible example of a breakthrough streaming superstar." Even the music video for "Take Me To Church," has quickly gained over 40 million views on Youtube. The Irish born singer also picked up his first Grammy nomination for song of the year earlier this month. Not a bad way to end 2014 for the guitar wielding songwriter.
The idea of artists becoming successful via steaming websites isn't a far fetched idea. With streaming services now becoming more popular then internet downloading, the achievements of Hozier may be a sign of things to come for other emerging artists.
