Everyone knows the fourth Thursday of every November is Thanksgiving. Hip-hop enthusiasts and Michiganders are especially thankful if they went out the night before. For the last six Thanksgiving Eves, Danny Brown has invited some of the hardest hitting rap acts to perform at his own showcase of Detroit’s musical talent. “Bruiser Thanksgiving,” is, by now, a Detroit tradition, Many worried this years’ event would fall through because of coronavirus concerns. But like many artists, Brown has decided to adapt and move his festival online. Tickets for the November 25th event are available here.
This year, Bruiser Thanksgiving will feature performances from Shigeto, ZelooperZ, Tiny Jag, and Bruiser Wolf. The venue, a house on Detroit’s East Side, was featured in Brown’s excellent “Best Life” video. To promote this year’s event, Brown released a music video for “Savage Nomad” off his 2019 album uknowwhatimsayin¿. The video, directed by Realestphotgrapherever, shows footage from Brown’s pre-Covid tour. Many artists on the “Bruiser Thanksgiving” lineup make appearances in the video.
Bruiser Thanksgiving isn’t just a showcase of Detroit’s hip-hop talent. Brown also hopes to support young creatives through Inside Out Detroit, a non-profit which provides literary and academic classes to emerging voices. You can donate to Inside Out Detroit here.
