Simon Green is a man of many mysteries, consistently reinventing his creative process and forever finding inspiration from his own sense of reality. Formally known as Bonobo, the English producer, instrumentalist, and innovator has remained silent for a while after launching his Outlier club events around the world. Today he finally announces an upcoming album in 2017 called Migration and the first single, "Kerala".
The music video for "Kerala" is a disorientating story that really feels like you are alongside the main character, played by Gemma Arterton. The female's confusion on screen may match your own, as the scenes unfold a dramatic hallucinating trip. Throughout the four minutes, pay attention to minuet details in the background, as there are hidden eggs like a splitting person, vibrating walls, and glowing eyes. Bison is the director, a popular music video maker who has worked with Lana Del Rey and Jon Hopkins before.
Bonobo's sixth studio album, Migration, will be 12 tracks long and feature singer and song writer Nick Murphy (formally Chet Faker), Canadian act Rhye, and Moroccan band Innov Gnawa on vocals. The album will be released with Ninja Tune Records on January 13th, so mark the date down. The themes of human movement and identity are reoccurring throughout the album, an important topic today to address in our Globalized society.
Green himself comments,“It’s interesting how one person will take an influence from one part of the world and move with that influence and effect another part of the world. Over time, the identities of places evolve.”
A new selection of music from Bonobo is always to be praised, especially when heard in a live setting with his whole band. Check out all the upcoming North American tour dates below and stay tuned for future singles.
